We Hope you Are Well

Mary Maglotti Life Resolutions

Metal health issues have been more severe during COVID-19 pandemic. People are facing job insecurity, the loss of loved ones, stress and anxiety over contracting the virus and a million and one other difficulties. People need to support one another more than ever to ensure everyone gets through this. However, with social distancing restrictions and people facing lockdown and self-isolation requirements, this essential social support has become difficult to give and receive.

For this reason, we should change our perception of these rules and see it as physical distancing, not social distancing. You are still able to keep social and to share and receive the support that we all so desperately need during this time; we have to go about it a little differently.

Life Resolution’s Advice On Keeping Social In A Time Of Social Distancing

How To Share And Receive Social Support During Social Distancing:

· Virtually talk to your loved ones – make sure you keep in touch with your friends and family in whatever way you feel comfortable – call, text, skype, facetime, anything! Just reach out and communicate, most likely, they’ll be craving someone to talk to as well.

· Spend quality time with the people you live with – whether you live with family, your partner, friends, or people you barely know, invest some quality time in bonding and enjoying each other’s company. You could bring out some old board games, cook a meal together, or even sit and watch TV together, anything you feel comfortable doing.

· Employ the power of the Internet – there are so many resources out there to keep people engaged in the community, including online events, seminars, yoga classes, art classes, anything you could imagine, all you need to do is to look for it!

· Mail your loved ones – it seems that the days of letter writing are long behind us, but these difficult times are the perfect opportunity to bring it back! Write a letter or card to your friends and family, send a gift in the mail, or a bunch of flowers – anything that will help to brighten their day and remind them that they are loved. If you’re lucky, they may even return the favour.

· Seek professional help if you need it – while there are ways to keep social during the time. It is still difficult to gain the support you need if you feel that your mental health is becoming compromised, or feel the need to speak to a professional. Please do not hesitate to seek support from a qualified psychologist, or for urgent help contact 24/7 services such as Beyond Blue or Lifeline.
